Sony Ericsson's Xperia Arc
Time:
2:24 AM
Sony Ericsson released just one phone at CES, but the Xperia Arc is nothing to ignore. The hardware, to be frank, is stunning. T
In the hand, the phone is defined by its namesake, ultra-thin arcing back. It's not quite as dramatically thin as it's made out to be, but it's noticeably thin and possibly thinner at some points than the iPhone 4. The new screen is somewhat oversold: it's only very slightly larger (0.2 inches more) and, while higher resolution, at 480x854 still won't match the sharpness of the iPhone 4's smaller but 640x960 display. Build quality was also typical Sony Ericsson: it should hold up, but a lot of the trim is simply plastic made to look more expensive than it is.
A second-generation 1GHz Snapdragon chipset with an integrated Adreno 205 GPU is a vital part of the Xperia arc's innards. Not only does it enable improved video playback in Mediascape and on your HDTV, but also improved gaming performance when playing the latest and greatest Android games on the go. The Xperia arc comes pre-loaded with Android Market for more than 100,000 downloadable apps, games and widgets.

Sony Ericsson Launches Xperia X10 Android Phone
That UI skin is going to be controversial; Sony Ericsson's "Timescape" and "Mediascape" integrate social networking and media experiences into the phone with a lot of complicated animations. In our preview, contributing editor Jamie Lendino found those animations to slow the X10 down - we'll see how they do on the final model.
Since this was a new launch and that too in U.S., many Sony Ericsson's fans expected the phone to finally get the much needed update to Android 2.1. Sadly, they have been disappointed by the company, which seems to be facing major issues with modding its addons to suit Android 2.1. That brings us to another issue. Will the Xperia ever get Android 2.2? Will they jump directly to Froyo or worse? Will they ever update the phone?
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 also has all the features we've come to expect from smartphones, such as a 1GHz processor and full wireless options. It even has an 8.1-megapixel camera with LED flash and smile and face detection, and 1GB of onboard memory and a 2GB microSD card included in the box.
